The County Auditor is a statutory, appointed position charged with general oversight of the financial operations of the County.  The County Auditor is appointed to a two-year term of office by the State District Judge in the County.  The County Auditor is the Chief Financial Officer of the County. The County Auditor maintains the integrity of the financial administration by overseeing the County’s financial record-keeping and assuring that all expenditures comply with the county budget and the law. The County Auditor has continuous access to all books and financial records of every elected official and conducts detailed reviews of all county financial operations.  The County Auditor's Office is here to safeguard the assets of the County. Divisions within the Auditor's Office include:  accounts payable, financial accounting and reporting, and internal auditing.

Role of the County Auditor's office:

  • keeps the general accounting records
  • prepares financial reports
  • prescribes systems for the receipt and disbursement of funds for the County
  • audits and processes accounting transactions for grants, state reports, and accounts payable
  • audits payroll
  • asset management
  • verifies compliance with governing laws
  • performs statutory reviews of records maintained by other officials; and
  • prepares annual revenue estimates and assists in the overall budget process.
