County Tax Assessor-Collector

The tax assessor-collector calculates property tax rates for the county, collects taxes for the county (and sometimes for additional local taxing entities) and collects various other fees for the state and county.
A tax assessor-collector in Texas has the following duties:

  • Calculates property tax rates for the county
  • Collects property taxes for the county
  • May collect taxes for cities, schools and other local taxing entities
  • Processes motor vehicle title transfers
  • Issues motor vehicle registration and licenses
  • May process boat titles and registrations
  • Registers voters and may conduct elections
  • Collects various other fees for the state and county

Motor Vehicle / Boat Registrations


Automobile, truck, and trailer registration and title transfers are done in our office. Applications for handicap parking are available in our office. When these are completed by the doctor, they are returned to our office for issuance of handicap plates or placards.

Renew Your Registration Online at www.texas.gov/drivers and Receive a $1.00 Discount!
Your vehicle registration may be renewed online 90 days before the expiration date or up to six months after the expiration date, if you have not received a citation for expired registration. Your expiration month will not change.

There is a two business day payment processing hold before your sticker is printed. Please allow up to three weeks for processing and mailing. You can track the status of your registration sticker by visiting www.txdmv.gov/track.

We have three substations for the same transactions as shown above. They are in Mineola, Hawkins and Winnsboro.
 

Property Tax Collections

We collect taxes for:

  • Wood County Central Hospital District (for property in Quitman ISD)
  • Alba / Golden I.S.D.

  • Big Sandy I.S.D. (properties located in Wood County)
  • Emergency Service District #1
  • Harmony I.S.D. (properties located in Wood County)
  • Hawkins I.S.D.
  • Hawkins City
  • Quitman City
  • Quitman I.S.D.
  • Yantis I.S.D.
  • Yantis City
  • Winnsboro City
  • Winnsboro ISD

Statements will be mailed for current years taxes the first of October or as soon thereafter. If not paid before February 1st of the following year, penalty will be added and accrues each month. On July 1st, up to 20% attorney's fees will be added. Payments can be made in person, or on our website (woodcountytax.com)

Any exemptions, which could be applied, should be filed with the Wood County Appraisal District. Also, any changes in address, ownership or exemptions with appraisals should be reported to that office. Any disagreement with appraisals should also be discussed with that office.
